Man found dead in river off Richmond Riverside

A man has died in the river by Richmond Riverside.

Police were called to the scene at 10.25am and a section of the path was cordoned off.

A blue tent was also set up within the cordon and an officer was directing people away from the scene.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at approximately 10:25hrs on Monday, April 19 to reports of a body of a male found in the River Thames by Petersham Meadows.

"Enquiries are underway to confirm the identity of the deceased and to inform next of kin.

"At this early stage, the death is being treated as non-suspicious."

Teddington RNLI said it sent both of its boats to assist.

"Volunteer crew paged this morning at 10.29am. Both lifeboats launched to assist Richmond Police, London Ambulance Service and its Hazardous Area Response Team with riverside incident in Richmond".

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 10.28am today to reports of an incident on the River Thames near Richmond.

"We sent an ambulance crew, an incident response officer, a medic in a car, and our hazardous area response teams.

"Sadly, a person was found dead at the scene."
