A man has been charged with assault offences following a 'serious' incident at a residential property on Mortlake High Street.

Police were called shortly after 9am on Saturday, 18 July following reports of a serious assault inside a home.

Emergency services attended and one man was taken to hospital for treatment. The Met Police said his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A man was arrested at the scene and, in an update issued on Sunday, 19 July, police confirmed he has now been charged with assault offences.

He remains in custody and is due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court.

The incident prompted a significant police presence in the area, with road closures put in place while officers carried out enquiries and gathered evidence.

Neighbourhood officers remained in the area throughout Saturday to provide reassurance and speak with residents and businesses affected by the police activity.

In a statement, the Met Police's Mortlake and Barnes Common Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "We would continue to emphasise that the individuals concerned were known to each other and that there is no wider risk to the public."
