A 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of explosive substance and terrorism offences in South West London.

He was detained yesterday (Monday, March 22) by officers from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command at an address on suspicion of possession of an explosive substance.

Today (Tuesday, March 23) the man was further arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism.

He is currently being held at a central London police station.

Specialist officers remain at the property to carry out searches. A cordon is in place, but police have not said where in South West London the arrest happened.

"The risk to people in nearby properties has been assessed and it hasn't been deemed necessary to evacuate addresses in the surrounding area," the force said.

Enquiries are continuing.
