Police enquiries continue after a man was arrested on suspicion of assault in the centre of Richmond.

A spokesman for the Met Police said: "Police were called at approximately 8.45pm on Thursday, July 16 to reports of an assault in George Street, Richmond.

"Officers attended and a 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault.

"He has since been released under investigation whilst our enquiries continue.

"The victim was not seriously injured."

Last weekend, we reported how private security guards were "harassing" shoppers in the town centre.

Richmond residents have been told not to employ private security contractors for any public work.
