2nd Nov 2020 | Local News

Richmond Nub News is your dedicated online newspaper, working to gather all the information you'll need as we head into this second national lockdown.

The lockdown plans set out by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in an address to the nation on Saturday night (October 31) should be approved by parliament this week and will begin on Thursday, November 5.

It was last for 27 days, until December 2.

As a champion of business and the high street, we want to help you as much as we can.

We run a free online A-Z of what's in Richmond, giving businesses a promotional boost. You can add your business to it here.

If you run a cafe, pub or restaurant, will you be changing to offer takeaway and delivery? Let us know your plans and we'll publicise them.

Do you work in an industry which will have to stop for the lockdown, and will you be using the furlough scheme which has been extended? Jobseekers can take a look at our jobs portal where dozens of new vacancies are posted every day.

Below you'll find information on how businesses are responding to the lockdown, changes to council services, community requests and more.

If there's something we should post, please email [email protected].

How businesses are adapting

Responding on the Richmond Nub News Facebook page, Latin and Classics tutor Ana Martin said: "Great initiative. I moved all my classes online at the beginning of lockdown, including local customers. I plan to resume face to face lessons once this is over. I am still taking bookings and happy to arrange local groups online on demand." Have a look at Ana's listing on our business directory for more information.

Independent Italian restaurant Bacco told us via Twitter that it will run a takeaway service, four days a week. The restaurant's founder Stefano Bergamin is producing a takeaway menu. Its new autumn menu which it only just unveiled has been put on ice and they'll hopefully be able to serve up dishes on it in December.

London Photo Festival is running a photography exhibition in the grounds of Marble Hill House, just outside the park. "It's a perfect activity to accompany a walk and visitors can vote for their favourite image in the exhibition," they said.

Richmond Hill music shop Sleeve Notes Records are encouraging shoppers to buy their vinyl records online.

They will deliver to your home within 2 miles by bicycle. Read more about them on the Richmond Nub News Local List.

Ham Parade Market is held on the first Monday of every month, but its upcoming market this Saturday, November 7 is up in the air.

"We will update you on next Saturday's market when we know more...I mean when we have a clue," organisers posted.

During the first lockdown a lot of people used the time to finally address injuries which they had been carrying.

Richmond Physiotherapy has a clinic on Hill Street. They said: "Difficult times ahead again - we are aware so many of our patients struggled with the loneliness of last lockdown so with all PPE guidelines in place & the improved understanding of delivering treatments we will strive to do our best for you - please call to discuss the matter with our team if you are worried. 02083321132 we are here for you."

Some positivity from florist and greengrocer Streets in St Margarets who will be remaining open.

They said: "Good morning! As we move into another lockdown we just want to reassure our wonderful customers that we will be open throughout as we are an essential business, supplying you with fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers & juices to keep you happy and healthy.

"We will still be offering our contact free delivery service. To place an order just text your list of produce, desired delivery date, name and address to 07399795851. Stay safe all!"

There was huge excitement last month when Japanese restaurant chain Bone Daddies opened a new ramen bar in Richmond town centre. In an email message, they wrote: "For the next month, we'll still be here serving up hot noods, homemade broth, belter buns, and of course, our Korean wings. Only this time, you can pick 'em up or get them delivered.

"And again, thank you. We've seen staggering support from you all on our Richmond opening last month and in general across our other ramen bars. We wouldn't be standing here without you or our incredible teams. We've seen what happens when we all dig deep and support each other during these (get ready for it) unprecedented times and we can't wait to see you face to face for a bowl as soon as we can."

But Richmond Playball, a multi-skilled sports program for children aged 2-8, was gutted by the news.

"To say we are devastated would be an understatement but we wanted to get in touch as soon as possible to clarify that we have heard all the new measures at the exact same time as everyone else and therefore as you can imagine, we are working hard behind the scenes to figure everything out before we provide you all with the way forward," they said.

Council services

We've enquired about what the lockdown will mean for essential council services and functions, such as waste and recycling collections, Townmead recycling centre, libraries, on-street parking charges and sports.

Richmond Council is currently working through everything and we'll update you as soon as we can.
