Passengers who travelled by train amid the strike action by South Western Railway workers last Christmas may be eligible for compensation.

A board in Richmond Railway Station directs people to the SWR website to check their eligibility.

The rail operator has now extended applications for the compensation scheme until September 30, giving customers more time to apply.

SWR said: "Phase Two of the scheme has been extended and is open to all customers who have not been contacted but who travelled with us during the period of industrial action in December and meet the eligibility criteria.

"Customers can now complete their claim online, providing details of their ticket(s) and journey(s) during the strike period.

"If we've already contacted you and you've received your claim reference in an email or letter, you can redeem your claim online."
