Signage around the centre of Richmond is the biggest issue for cultural organisations locally, according to a major consultation with residents and businesses.

Richmond Council has shared the latest set of findings from its 'vision for Richmond Town Centre' project which began with a major study into the area.

Results of the study were first published last year and now the council is working to create a "vision and action plan for the town centre".

But an update shared this week has highlighted the culture, leisure and sport findings of the study.

"In all interviews that were conducted with culture, leisure and sport organisations, wayfinding was brought up as one of the most significant issues," it said.

"This was also echoed through conversations with residents and visitors alike."

Wayfinding was identified as a key issue for The Museum of Richmond, which said it struggles to draw in punters due to a lack of signage and its less than obvious location.

The listed status of the building has reportedly made it difficult for the museum to put up new signs.

One quote from a resident shared said: "If there was a big sign, like there is for Megan's, we'd know [the museum] was there!"

Locals also said they wanted a "more diverse and consistent schedule of community events" like Twickenham's Taste of Twickenham and Kingston's Christmas market.

The report continued: "There is an opportunity for culture to be the backbone of these activities and for the key cultural and leisure institutions in the town centre to help facilitate this.

"Not only would this bring more people together, but it would help increase the visibility of these local organisations."
