Kingston and Richmond NHS nurse scoops national award

A nurse from Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust's wins an award at the British Journal of Nursing Awards.

Lead Nutrition Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Trust, Sharlene Haywood, won the Nutrition Nurse of the Year 2025 Award.

The British Journal of Nursing Awards celebrate excellence in research and practice while recognising outstanding achievements across the nursing community. 

After winning the award Haywood said: "I can hardly believe it. The competition for these awards is intense, I honestly never expected to win.

"I'm incredibly proud that my work has been recognised at such a prestigious level. I am grateful for the supportive colleagues and teams I work with, without them none of this work would be possible."

Haywood won her gold award for the work she has led for the past five years to ensure patients have timely and appropriate access to nutritional care, including specialist nursing nutrition support, improving the safety of patient care and investing in the nutritional education and competency of health care practitioners.

Berenice Constable, Deputy Chief Nurse at Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust commented: "I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Sharlene on her well-deserved Nutrition Nurse of the Year Award, which is a testament to her outstanding dedication and contribution to our patients and team. 

"Her passion for specialist nursing nutrition support is appreciated every day. Thank you, Sharlene, for everything you do. You are an inspiration to us all." 

The British Journal of Nursing Awards took place on Friday, 21 March 2025 at BMA House in Tavistock Square, London.
