A long-serving Conservative councillor, who lost her seat in Richmond at the local elections, has blamed Boris Johnson and his 'lack of integrity'.

Pamela Fleming, who was a councillor for South Richmond, was swept away by a Lib-Dem landslide, which left the Conservatives with just one representative on the Council.

The Boris Johnson confidence vote by Tory MPs earlier this week saw the Prime Minister's friends and loyalists rally around the Prime Minister.

These included Zac Goldsmith, who lost his seat as the Richmond Park MP at the last election and was then immediately put into the House of Lords by Mr Johnson and made a minister.

Some 40% of Tory MPs - 148 – voted 'no confidence' in Johnson, however Lord Goldsmith, tweeted: "It is a clear win for Boris.

"Despite massive and unprecedented challenges coinciding with his time as PM, he has landed well ahead of his opponents, and it answers the question until the election. He can and will turn things around."

Former councillor, Pamela Fleming pointed out that once you take out the approximately 160 MPs who are on the Johnson payroll with various posts in the government, there was no 'clear win'.

She wrote: "Not when you take out the payroll vote. Having lost my seat in the Council elections I can assure you the majority of Richmond voters oppose him and his lack of integrity."

Soon after the elections, the one remaining Conservative councillor in the borough, Geoffrey Samuel, who represents Hampton North, told Nub News that the cover-up of rule breaking by Boris Johnson during the pandemic was responsible for voters turning away from the party.
