Richmond Council's leader has spoken about the impact of the new national lockdown on council services.

Many including gyms and sports centres were already closed because Richmond has been in Tier 4 since December 20.

Cllr Gareth Roberts spoke about the effect in a video which you can watch at the top of this story or read his comments below.

"Hello, you will by now be aware that the government has announced that from midnight tonight, the entire country will be put into a lockdown similar to that which we saw in March," Mr Roberts said.

"There will be changes as to how we deliver council services. Our libraries continue to offer a click-and-collect service but we will be scaling back the number of libraries which offer IT and computer provision.

"We will also be ensuring that Townmead Waste and Recycling Centre stays open but you will need to have an appointment if you wish to use it.

"We are currently looking at what our day centre provision will look like and will be announcing that in due course. We will also be opening our community hub to ensure that those people who need help most can get that help.

"Our parks and playgrounds will remain open but the outdoor gym equipment will have to close as will other outdoor sporting equipment."
