A fab way to wrap up one year in business

By Guest 7th Jul 2020

A 17-year-old small business owner has celebrated the end of her first year of trading with a donation to her favourite Kew charity.

Georgie Cox, a Richmond College student and keen environmentalist, has Aspergers, dyslexia and sensory disorders.

She is passionate about reducing waste and when she heard from her aunty that most wrapping paper can't be recycled, she wanted to find a new way of wrapping gifts.

So she started FabWraps from her home in Twickenham.

It produces a range of 100% cotton fabric gift bags and wraps that are suitable for wrapping presents throughout the year.

Fully reusable, they give you a zero waste way to gift wrap for a lifetime.

This month was FabWraps' first anniversary and to mark it Georgie decided to give more than 5% of her profits to the charity Dose of Nature, which promotes the mental health benefits of engaging with the natural world.

Georgie said: "I just want to help them as much as I can. I hope that other people will also be interested in helping such a good cause too."

A big thanks to Georgie

Dr Alison Greenwood from the charity said: "Dose of Nature is delighted by this very generous donation from Georgie Cox, founder of FabWraps.

"It will help us to continue to deliver nature prescriptions to people with mental health issues throughout the borough of Richmond."

She added: "We are thrilled to have the support of such a wonderful local business that shares our values of caring for the environment and for the local community.

"Thank you so much to Georgie and the rest of her FabWraps team!"

Georgie is not the only entrepreneurial young woman in her family.

Her sister Frankie runs AngelicCleansing which produces eco-friendly fun and funky reusable face cleansing pads.

During lockdown Georgie has been enjoying connecting with nature, walking along the riverside and visiting Bushy Park.

"We are so lucky to have so many green spaces around us," she said. "Everyone should make the most of them."

Gift wrap to last a lifetime

FabWraps is based on the Japanese idea of Furoshiki, or fabric wrapping.

The products (a range of double sided wraps, gift bags and bottle bags, all in 100% cotton for super stylish gift giving) are made in Twickenham by Georgie with some help from her mum. They are fully washable and can be used in lots of ways.

She sells them via Etsy which can be reached though her website and at The People Hive on Twickenham's Heath Road.
