All playgrounds in the Richmond area are open again - and six have been given a makeover.

Summer holidays are looking up as children can enjoy the new and improved facilities, as well as their old favourites.

The upgrades took place ahead of the the government's decision to allow playgrounds to reopen on Saturday, July 4, following their closure due to Covid-19.

So what's new?!

Tangier Green (North Sheen), Raleigh Road Recreation Ground (North Sheen) and Heathfield Recreation Ground (Twickenham) have been given all-new trim trails, encouraging fun and active play.

Moormead Recreation Ground (Twickenham) has had its seesaw replaced, Diamond Jubilee Gardens (Twickenham) has had a new carousel installed and Palewell Common (East Sheen) has had a 'Union' installed, which is a series of spinning poles that create balancing challenges.

Joy of the outdoors

The Chair of the Richmond Council's Environment and Sustainability Committee, Cllr Julia Neden-Watts, said: "Outdoor play areas encourage children to spend time outside, socialise and increase their physical activity.

"As such, it's important that playgrounds have suitable and up-to-date play equipment to encourage everyone to benefit from the joy of spending time outdoors.

"I'm pleased that our playgrounds are reopening in accordance with government guidance, but residents are reminded of the continued risk of Covid-19 and that using play or outdoor equipment is done entirely at the user's own risk.

"Please read the guidance that will be displayed at all playgrounds and continue to respect social distancing rules."
