Halloween is just around the corner, and whether you're trick-or-treating, carving pumpkins, or dressing up in something spooky, there are plenty of events in and around Richmond.

Halloween at Kew Gardens

Kew Gardens in Richmond has a brand new after dark Halloween trail (credit: Kew Gardens).

About: Join family and friends to wander from dusk into darkness between one ghostly space to another. Watch out for flickering flames in a fiendish fire garden, daring fire artists and grinning pumpkins aglow.

Wind your way through the illuminated haunted woods filled with creepy neon cobwebs, ghastly ghouls, wicked witches, larger-than life spiders and beastly bats. Could it be a trick of the light or do things really go "bump in the night"?

There's a delicious twist to the sweetest of treats on offer. Enjoy a fiendishly good hot toddy* or devilishly decadent hot chocolate* and toast a marshmallow* with someone special.

When: 8 Oct - 26 Oct. Monday - Sunday from 6pm - 10pm. 27 Oct - 3 Nov. Monday - Sunday from 4pm - 10pm.

East Sheen Halloween Treasure Hunt

East Sheen Halloween Treasure Hunt is brought to you by the Hare & Hounds and East Sheen Business & Retail Association (credit: Image supplied).

About: Get into the spirit of Halloween and bring your little horrors along to this super popular SW14 family event - it's going to be bigger, better and spookier than ever this year with lots of 'spellbinding' happenings!

Starting at the Hare & Hounds in the heart of East Sheen, trick or treaters will pick up a map showing participating local businesses.

Children, accompanied by their adult(s), simply trick or treat their way around each shop on the map, collecting goodies and finding a letter in each that spells out a phrase. Then it's back to the Hare & Hounds with the correct phrase to collect a prize.

The event is run by the Hare & Hounds in conjunction with East Sheen Business & Retail Association and a fantastic cross section of local businesses get involved. Look out for great window displays.

When: 26 Oct, 10am - 2pm.

Where: 214-216 Upper Richmond Road West, East Sheen SW14 8AH

Price: £6.60, inc. £0.60 booking fee. Accompanying adults go free.

Halloween at Hampton Court Palace

Discover the magic behind Henry VIII's haunted palace (credit: Historic Royal Palaces).

About: Explore Henry VIII's notoriously haunted palace for Halloween 2024, the spookiest time of the year at Hampton Court Palace.

This October half term, lose yourself in atmospheric projections and creepy sound effects as the palace is transformed by magical spells.

As you tiptoe through the dark winding corridors and courtyards, you'll feel the chilling presence of our infamous ghosts hiding around every corner. Some may even be closer than you expect, but keep your distance – these ghosts are best kept to the past.

After all that exploring, cosy down to hear some spooky stories and then relax with a Halloween-themed treat from the café.

When: 26 Oct - 3 Nov.

About: Join us for a free, fun-filled day at our spooky pumpkin patch on Whittaker Avenue! (next to Brindisa).

Select and carve your very own pumpkin, transforming it into a frightful masterpiece. While you're there, let our talented artists turn you into a ghoulish ghost or a spooky skeleton!

Don't forget to capture the fun with some hauntingly good selfies. A day of thrills and chills awaits – see you there if you dare!

Ghostly Galleon Scream Up!

Join Hampton Kempton Waterworks Railway for its spooky Halloween train (credit: Hampton Kempton Waterworks Railway).

About: Beware me hearties of those spooky pesky pirates sailing around our railway who are in search of lost gold as you climb aboard our ghostly Scream Up! train.

Watch out for the pirates as they try and board our train to carry out their search for gold! Not to worry! Our ghostly Guards will see them off, or will they? Only with your help.

When: 26 Oct, 5:30pm - 8pm and 27 Oct, 5pm - 8pm.

Where: Hampton Kempton Waterworks Railway, Snakey Lane, Hanworth, London, TW13 7ND

Price: Advance booking only. Tickets £4 for children (under 3s free) and adults 16 years and over £8 – ticket price includes hot drink and cookies. (Parental discretion advised as under 3s may find this event scary).
