High street shoppers in Richmond were witness to a drama this afternoon (Friday, 5 August) after an unexplained power surge brought firefighters rushing to a local venue.

Crews from London Fire Brigade were called to the Whisky and Wealth Club on George Street which was evacuated after the mysterious energy issue which disrupted electrics within the premises.

The Whisky and Wealth Club (https://whiskeywealthclub.com) at 51a George Street offers private clients the opportunity to purchase premium casks of Irish Whiskey and Scotch whisky, which can be sampled on the premises.

Firefighters checked out the building and power supply.

The incident happened around 2.30pm and a member of staff told Richmond Nub News: "We are not sure what happened. There was a sudden surge of power.

"We alerted the fire service who have been into the building to make sure it's safe. Now we are just waiting for engineers from the power company to come and find out what has happened."
