Annapurna Restaurant in East Sheen has raised £2,750 to support the relief efforts in Nepal following August's devastating landslides and flash floods.

In August, at least 1,300 people were killed in floods triggered by a glacial collapse near the Nepal-Tibet border, with 5,000 still missing including more than 30 British nationals.

Following the catastrophe, Raj Sharma, owner of Annapurna Nepalese Restaurant in East Sheen, and his team decided to host a lunch and a dinner to raise funds to support the enormous relief and rehabilitation efforts in their native Nepal.

Sharma said: "This disaster has affected us all, either directly or indirectly, and we wanted to do something positive to help, which is why we organised a lunch and dinner event on 20 and 21 September and invited our customers and community to join us.

"Both events were fantastically well supported and, whilst we expected to raise around £1,300, the wonderful generosity of our community brought the total up to £2,750.

"We are deeply grateful to everyone who came, dined and contributed."

Annapurna's regular team were joined by three extra members of the Sharma family, and it was all hands on deck to serve up fresh and delicious set menus to a packed restaurant.

The event was supported by a number of Annapurna's suppliers, including East Sheen's Ragu Italian Deli and Wineservice wine merchants.

The money raised has been sent to Nepal's official Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund.
