Graffiti at Richmond's TGJones with the words 'WHSmith' is yet to be removed after appearing more than a week ago.

The high street retailer's branch on George Street was defaced, with its logo being crossed out in white spray paint and the brand's former name written beside it.

As the graffiti is yet to be removed, people have taken to social media to give their reactions and weigh in on the brand.

Under a Reddit post with more than 10,000 upvotes, one user commented: "I'm normally not a fan of most graffiti but I must admit to being a bit tickled by this!"

Another said: "There's panic on the streets of Richmond, panic on the streets of Doncaster. Spray the Tj, spray the Tj, spray the Tj."

A third joked: "I guess the Smiths are bitter about not being able to keep up with the Joneses."

Meanwhile, some users have expressed their frustration with the new name for the high street outlets.

"It's just the dumbest rebrand ever," said one user.

Another wrote: "Like, WHSmith was a well-established and largely respected brand. If they got bought out and wanted to change the name, fine. But changing it to another [initial] [initial] [surname]-format name – one that no one has ever heard of – is just the epitome of idiotic."

One user explained: "While I don't condone the vandalism, literally no one is calling it TGJones."

Following the sale of its high street outlets to Modella Capital in March last year, the company rebranded most of its WHSmith stores to TGJones in a £76 million deal.

However, WHSmith retained its railway station and airport stores.

TGJones was approached for comment.
