Covid has forced the temporary cancellation of the Orange Tree Theatre's production of 'While the Sun Shines'.

The rise of the infection across Richmond borough and London has hit a number of businesses, including pubs, restaurants and retailers, over the festive period.

Many West End shows have closed after cast members tested positive for the virus and now the Orange Tree has been hit over what is a crucial period for ticket sales.

The Orange Tree said: "Despite rigorous Covid safety procedures in place, we regret to say a member of the company of While the Sun Shines has tested positive and is having to isolate. We will therefore have to cancel performances on 29, 30, 31 December and 1 January.

"We realise what a disappointment this will be, but of course the safety of our audiences and our team is of the utmost priority, and we plan to resume performances as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding during this time.

"We're in the process of contacting all ticket holders to arrange tickets for alternative performances, credit or refunds. If you don't hear from us by midday tomorrow, please contact our box office team."

Several performances of the theatre's Christmas show Pinocchio have also had to be cancelled through December after a member of the company tested positive for Covid.
