A club cricketer completed a 62-MILE run-up to bowl a ball - which could be a world record.

Sam Bodoano jogged from Lord's - the 'home of cricket' - to Valley End Cricket Club in Woking, Surrey in aid of charity.

The 22-year-old ran the distance - 101.38km, or more than two marathons - in 14 hours on August 30 before lobbing down a legal delivery.

To make the Guinness World Record attempt official, Sam had to run while holding a cricket ball and dressed in full cricket whites - then play a subsequent game after the initial ball.

He bowled the ball at his dad, who knocked it into the covers for a dot ball.

Sam, who has been playing cricket since he was seven years old, said: "It was pretty annoying holding the ball that entire time – but I was surprised wearing the whites wasn't as uncomfortable as I thought, I thought the chafing would have been a lot worse.

"It was very hard, my legs were absolutely ruined – but I managed to get it done and I had some good support along the way."

He added: "I do lots of challenges on social media – anything I can combine my passions with.

"I have been playing cricket most of my life, so to combine ultramarathon stuff with cricket was something I was very keen for."

Sam, a part-time cricket coach from Worplesdon, Surrey, raised more than £6,000 for the Ruth Strauss Foundation as part of his attempt to break the previous male bowling run-up record of 15 miles (24.36km), set back in August 2024.

Starting just before midnight, his route took him from Lord's in north London, out east – crossing Millennium Bridge, Southwark Bridge, and Tower Bridge before he returned west via the Oval.

He then ran through Richmond Park and Surrey before he finally bowled and played 20 overs at Valley End Cricket Club after finishing the run at around 2pm – 14 hours and 2.4 marathons after he started.

During the game Sam managed to hit two sixes and his team, the Ruth Strauss Eleven, lost to the Valley End Socials by one run.

Asked why his route was an uneven number, Sam explained that he had been aiming to run 100km but wanted to avoid the dreaded 'Strava tax' – where the displayed distance is lower than expected.

He said: "The goal was just to run 100, but I made the route a touch longer as a little bit of a buffer. I didn't want to end up with 99.9 or something."

Guinness World Records said it was aware of Sam's attempt but that is still needs to go through the formal evidence review and verification process before it can confirm whether the title has been achieved.

That review can take around two weeks, a spokesperson added.
