Richmond's young people have created 430 letters and drawings in an attempt to put a smile on care home residents in the town.

Richmond Council said a huge thank you to the children who took part in the #LoveThroughTheLettebox campaign.

It asked young people to write letters for older residents in Richmond as a way of letting them know that they are thinking of them during this difficult time.

Letters were first delivered to the council for safety reasons. They will soon be sent to several care homes throughout the borough.

Many of the letters include the writer's first name and school name so the recipient can reply if they wish to.

Cllr Piers Allen is chair of the Adult Social Services and Health Committee on Richmond Council and the Health and Wellbeing Board.

He said: "Our care home residents have been amongst the most affected people by the current crisis, so it's wonderful to know that we have so many caring young people in the borough who were willing to help with the #LoveThroughTheLetterbox campaign.

"Thank you to all those who took part – now spread the love!"
