Body found in Thames at Kingston

A body was found in the Thames in Kingston yesterday (6 February).

The body of an unknown woman was pulled from the river near Canbury Gardens at around 8am.

Police officers and medics performed first aid, but the woman could not be resuscitated.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at around 0800hrs on Sunday, 6 February, to a body found in the river near to Canbury Gardens, Kingston.

"The body was recovered and officers administered first aid prior to the arrival of LAS. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the woman's identity. At this early stage, there is nothing to indicate any suspicious circumstances."

A London Ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called at 8.20am today (6 February) to reports of an incident on Canbury Gardens, Kingston.

"We sent two ambulance crews, an incident response officer, member of our hazardous area response team, and a medic in a car to the scene.

"Sadly, despite the efforts of medics and police officers, a person died at the scene."

A lifeboat from Teddington RNLI was launched following reports of the body but stood down after leaving the lock.

The lifeboat station tweeted: "Volunteer crew paged at 0820 this Sunday morning to assist with a person in the water near Canbury Gardens in Kingston.

"Stood down by @HMCoastguard after exiting Teddington Lock as situation resolved by @MPSKingston assisted by @Ldn_Ambulance."
