British Transport Police confirm a person died following an incident on the railway line at Barnes station yesterday (Wednesday, 28 May).

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 10.30am after reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

British Transport Police have confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

The incident caused major disruption across the local rail network.

All lines between Clapham Junction and Barnes were blocked earlier in the day, with significant delays and cancellations continuing on routes towards Twickenham and Brentford.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the line near Barnes railway station at around 10.30am today (28 May) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
