Richmond Council is on the lookout for young athletes from across the borough to compete in this year's TCS Mini London Marathon.

The event's debut last year saw thousands of children and young people from across the capital experience the thrill of crossing the world-famous finish line of the London Marathon, with participants taking part in the last 2.5km of the renowned course.

A team of 33 athletes took to the streets to represent Richmond in the Borough Challenge in 2022 with all competing age categories pulling off some remarkable results.

The U13 Boys finished in 5th place, with the U15's finishing 2nd and the U17 Men finishing a respectable 12th.

The 2.6km course course stretches from Temple Place to the Mall. Last year's event comprised entrants from the nine regions of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, and included teams from all London Boroughs.

This year, Richmond is again on the lookout for youngsters aged between 11-17 years who live or go to school within the borough and have an enthusiasm for long-distance running and an eagerness to represent the Richmond team on Saturday, April 22nd.

The age categories for the TCS Mini London Marathon 2023 are:

  • Under 13 - born between 1 September 2009 and 31 August 2011
  • Under 15 - born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2009
  • Under 17 - born between 1 September 2005 and 31 August 2007

For those interested in applying, a 5k Parkrun event must be completed by Saturday 25 March 2023 which take place in four parks within the borough; Bushy Park, Crane Park, Old Deer Park and Richmond Park (further details on Parkrun can be found here).

Richmond Council's Sport Development Team will then select the six fastest male and female athletes in each category to represent the borough in April, who will all be contacted via email in the week beginning 27 March.
