Residents of Rann House in Mortlake say they are living in fear following a serious stabbing and arson attack within days.

An 18-year-old suffered serious injuries after being stabbed next to the development, which is run by Richmond Housing Partnership (RHP), on Tuesday of last week.

It has been reported that the teen, who was airlifted to hospital, was stabbed as many as six times.

People who live in the property have described the attack as an attempted murder, however a police statement on the attack described it as an 'assault'.

It has now emerged that there was an arson attack on a motorbike close to an entrance to Rann House on Wednesday night at around 11.15pm.

Worried residents were temporarily evacuated from their homes because of the smoke and fumes.

It has been reported locally – but not confirmed by the police - that the motorbike targeted in the attack belongs to the teenager who was stabbed last week.

One worried resident told Nub News: "Half of the residents that were affected by the smoke had to evacuate their flats until it was safe to go back.

"The residents are very scared as there's no security devices in place, not even CCTV, and that is why these people keep coming back.

"One of the residents will be hurt in future if no preventive measures are implemented by RHP. RHP is aware of the incidents but they are not doing anything about it.

"They should install surveillance, extra lighting at the back."

The resident added: "The residents of Rann House have never encountered any problems of this nature before. I know someone who has lived there for 28 years."

Following the stabbing last week, the Metropolitan Police said: "A 24-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call police via 101 quoting reference CAD 7126/05Jul."

A spokesperson for RHP says: "As this matter is currently with the police we can't publicly comment about this matter right now only to say we'll be doing all we can to support the police with their investigation."
