The Met Office has issued an Amber weather warning for Richmond as Storm Henk batters the UK.

The weather warning covers much of South East England and London and is in place from 10am to 8pm today (2 January).

The Met Office said: "Storm Henk will bring a spell of very strong winds, causing disruption to travel and utilities."

The warning means that people should expect the following:

  • There is a good chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • Probably some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
  • Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected
  • Flying debris is likely and could lead to Injuries or danger to life
  • Some roads and bridges likely to close
  • Injuries and danger to life is likely from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties
