Here comes the sun and the fun this weekend with community fairs promising a helter skelter collection of stalls, cake and plant sales, burgers and beer, plus rides and live music.

The annual Barnes Fair, run by the Barnes Community Association, is a great example of a what is quintessentially British summer event.

It takes place on Barnes Green and offers a carefully selected group of around 300 exhibitors offering fashion, jewellery, gifts and homeware for browsing.

There is a much-loved food and drink offering treats from some of Barnes' favourite bars and restaurants along with live music and margaritas, while the BCA will be serving their famous Pimm's all day.

Live music on the bandstand starts at 10am and comes from several local bands and choirs and a selection of dance and karate displays, while there will be a wandering band of ukulele players.

St Margarets Fair at Moormead Park has been bringing the community together for 40 years while raising thousands of pounds for good causes.

Younger visitors may also like to explore the police car and fire engine that will be parked up on the Green and there will be a classic 1965 Mustang on display for car enthusiasts alongside the usual Barnes Fair favourites of carousel, helter skelter and vintage swings.

A fantastic day out is promised with its much-loved dog show and fabulous football tournament.

As well as the many stalls - supporting local charities and campaigning groups - there is a music stage, which is always a big attraction.

This year's headliners are The Trojan Beats, who specialise in Ska, reggae and two tone classics.

While the many local artists and bands on the bill include The Fades, Pete Cogavin, and the Lemon Sharks of London.

Young bands taking to the stage include Artaca, who won this year's The Basement Door 'Battle of the Band'; along with Bring the Angels, whose members met while they were students at The Brit School; and Powerjam.

This weekend also sees Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a bonanza of glorious gardens and fabulous flowers, it's the perfect time to visit the grounds and experience the heady scent of summer.
