The Rugby Football Union (RFU) is optimistic that 22,000 fans will be allowed into Twickenham Stadium for the Autumn games.

This is however a downgrade on their hopes for 40,000 earlier in the year.

The RFU have said that subject to government approval 20,00 fans will be allowed into the England vs Barbarians match on October 25th.

This then will be increased to 22,000 for test matches in November and December.

The tickets will likely go to debenture holders and corporate sponsors first, meaning it will be incredibly challenging for regular supporters to attend any games until 2021.

The RFU is forecasting losses of up to £107m due to the pandemic and while the 20,000 for the Barbarians game would be the most fans at a sporting event since march many will be fustrated there are not more.

Anyone who has been to a match knows how busy Twickenham station can get and this is the reason that fans are being caped at 20,000.

The station would become too busy to follow regulations if there was 40,000 fans.

Harlequins however are set to admit 3,500 supporters for Saturday's Premiership fixture against Bath, the first professional match in England with a crowd since lockdown began.
