Bike hangars are coming to 11 streets across Richmond.

Richmond Council said the locations were chosen following requests and consultation with residents. A consultation on a further 20 bike hangars will be held later this year.

The chair of the authority's Environment, Sustainability, Culture and Sport Committee, Cllr Alexander Ehmann, said: "This is good news for bike owning residents in these streets who don't have gardens or enough room inside their homes to securely store their bikes.

"Making it easier for local people to switch to two-wheeled transport is a key element of our commitment to tackle climate change and I hope to be in a position to install a further 20 later this year."

Cyclehoop will be instructed to install the units at the following locations and further details about how to hire a space and timing will soon be available on the council website.

Locations of the 11 new bike hangars:

• Camac Road (West Twickenham)
• Cambridge Road (Teddington)
• Cross Street / Charles Street (Barnes)
• Edwin Road / Hamilton Road (South Twickenham)
• Fulwell Road (Fulwell and Hampton Hill)
• Hartington Road (St Margarets and North Twickenham)
• Onslow Road (South Richmond)
• St Margarets Road (Twickenham Riverside)
• Talbot Road (South Twickenham)
• Townshend Road (North Twickenham)
• Walpole Road (Teddington)

Each hangar can safely and securely store up to six bikes and are accessed by people who have signed up to the scheme (which is being run in partnership with Cyclehoop), paid a membership fee and been given a key.
