Richmond Park MP and Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Transport, Sarah Olney, last night addressed the crowds at the Barnes Residents rally at the recently closed Hammersmith Bridge. The rally was set up to give local residents an opportunity to share their experiences of life since the bridge was closed to pedestrians and cyclists three weeks ago.

Sarah Olney commented, 'It's now very clear that the only organisation with the funds to actually put forward to fix the bridge is the DfT. What we need right now from the Government is a commitment to provide the funds.'

'I'm doing everything in my power to get the Department for Transport to come and talk to me or indeed any elected representative in this part of London or TfL and I am considering my next move because I am running out of patience.'

'If you have a problem of this magnitude you have this many people whose lives have been affected to this extent you have children being prevented from getting to school, you have elderly people being prevented from getting to their doctors and no response from central Government. I have to tell you this is unprecedented.'

'I will keep pushing and I will keep shouting. I will keep demanding answers until I get a response from Government.'
