Richmond author's debut novel is a world worth escaping to

A Richmond author proudly displays his debut novel, Provenance – a story of journey and discovery as two very different societies collide.

The fantasy novel, written by Dominic M Williams, 32, of Larkfield Road, examines how the clash of cultures can not only create division and conflict but also foster friendship and understanding.

Dominic said: "I've always been fascinated by the world of fantasy fiction, so I wanted to create my very own universe.

"But I also wanted it to show something about human nature, the good and the bad, and how complex the coming together of two cultures or civilisations can be, both from a historical point of view and in modern society."

It was praised by novelist, scriptwriter and broadcaster Rhidian Brook whose books include The Aftermath (later made into a film starring Keira Knightley and Alexander Skarsgård) and The Killing of Butterfly Joe.

"Dominic M. Williams has created a world worth escaping to," he said.

A story of war, torture, betrayal, revolution, volcanoes and dragons, Provenance is the first book in the Katari Chronicles series.

It follows Delphyne, Drakania and Tristan who, as they attempt to navigate their way through new circumstances, must make choices that mean the difference between life and death, success and failure.

Dominic added: "I started off just by jotting down a few ideas when I was between jobs.

"Since then, over the course of three years, it accidentally turned into a novel as I got sucked further and further into the very world I was creating."

Provenance can be bought in either ebook or paperback format here.
