Richmond has continued to record multiple new cases of Covid-19.

A 600th resident tested positive on August 15.

In the 23 days since then (for which up-to-date figures are available), a further 91 people have tested positive.

This has pushed our infection rate up from 303 cases per 100,000 people in the population to 349 cases today.

The number of deaths due to the virus has tailed off enormously, from more than 1,000 people on a few grim days in April to low single digit figures throughout much of this month.

This has led to speculation that the virus has mutated and weakened, or a degree of immunity has developed among the UK population.

But the government is taking no chances. On Wednesday (September 9) the Prime Minister announced the 'Rule of Six', limiting all indoor and outdoor gatherings to just six people.
