Concerns over parking on roads near Richmond Park once fees are introduced

By The Editor 18th Apr 2021

Richmond Park MP Sarah Olney said she will seek "urgent clarification" over the impact of introducing charges in Richmond Park's car parks.

Today the Royal Parks charity announced its ambition to bring in hourly fees of £1.40 on weekdays and £2 on weekends in both Richmond and Bushy parks.

This measures come despite 81% of people who responded to a consultation saying they oppose the introduction of charges.

Ms Olney said: "I recognise fully the concerns some local residents will have about this announcement and will therefore be speaking with Royal Parks to seek urgent clarification on what kind of impact it will have.

"Many will be rightly anxious that there'll be a significant increase in parking outside their homes, which is practically and environmentally troublesome.

"While I welcome Royal Parks' assertion that the revenue raised will go into improving infrastructure and other projects that aim to help visitors access the park without needing a car, I similarly note that the vast majority of survey respondents objected to the idea.

"It is imperative, therefore, that the impact this will have on my constituents is addressed and mitigated against in a transparent and satisfactory way."
