Owls of the Eastern Ice: Blakistons Fish Owl Conservation in Russia by Jonathan C Slaght

Blakistons fish owl, a charismatic but endangered & little known species endemic to northeast Asia is the worlds largest owl. Jonathan, an American wildlife biologist & author, is an expert on the species, having spent a lot of time in the wilds of the Russian forest studying the owls ecology & conservation. His memoir of this experience 'Owls of the Eastern Ice' was published in summer 2020 to great acclaim & was nominated The Times (of London) Nature Book of the Year.

As well as describing the owls, the region they are found in & ongoing conservation efforts, this talk will give us a real flavour of the challenges of undertaking field work in such a remote area & the adventures encountered along the way.

.Jonathan will be talking to us from Minnesota where he lives.

This talk is free to members of RSPB Richmond and Twickenham Local Group & a suggested donation of £5.00 for non members.
