The charity which runs Richmond Park has urged people to call the police if they see a dog chasing deer.

This week Royal Parks Police said they had charged a man after an Irish Setter attacked a red deer earlier in October. The deer had to be put down.

Royal Parks said it was the fourth deer death by dog attack in Richmond Park in the past eight months.

The charity encouraged anyone who sees such an incident to immediately ring the on-call parks police officers.

"We're pleased the owner of the dog has been charged," the Royal Parks said on the official Richmond Park Facebook page.

"Sadly, this is the fourth deer since March that has suffered fatal injuries from a dog attack.

"Our message is clear; if you cannot control your dog then always ensure it is on a lead. Otherwise dog walkers may face prosecution.

"If you witness a dog chasing a deer contact the on-call police officers for Bushy and Richmond Parks via 07920586546."
