The actor who plays AFC Richmond manager Ted Lasso in the popular TV series has joined the growing number of people across football offering their backing to England's Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka.

Jason Sudeikis turned up to the premiere of the second series of Ted Lasso, which features fictional Premier League team AFC Richmond, in a shirt carrying the England players' names.

His support for the players, who have been subjected to vile racist abuse following the loss to Italy in the Euros, was welcomed by famous names and fans.

Gary Lineker tweeted: "Richmond will definitely win promotion now they've signed these three."

The former England player and Match of the Day presenter has a cameo role in the second series of the show.

Jason Sudeikis has become a familiar figure in the area while filming the series, which continued throughout lockdown over the past year.

He was named best male actor in a comedy at the Screen Actor's Guild Awards for his role as the out-of-place American football coach at AFC Richmond.

Season 1 of 'Ted Lasso' put Richmond on the map and turned into a surprise hit, earning 20 Emmy nominations when those award nominations were announced last week.

The 12-episode second season debuts on July 23 on Apple+.
