A team of litter pickers took to the streets and green spaces of Richmond this afternoon to make our town a little cleaner.

The volunteers headed off around Richmond Green, the riverside, and town centre and filled several bags of rubbish from just under an hour's work.

The initiative is run by Be Richmond and anyone can join! Litter picks run once a month and are held at lunch time – a great way to get those steps in.

Local resident Charlie, who joined the litter pick for the first time today, said: "What a lovely thing to do on my lunch break - it was more therapeutic than I expected!

"It was great to get out on Richmond Green and feel like you're making a bit of a difference."

All rubbish will be collected later today by Be Richmond's waste and recycling partner, First Mile.

No litter collected will go to landfill, it will be used to generate green energy.

In September Be Richmond is running a huge clean-up with 100 paddleboarders taking to the Thames to gather litter.

There are still places left for the toepath little pick – find out more here.
