Free HIV testing and contraception will be available in Ham on Friday thanks to a London sexual health charity.

The testing is organised by Spectra, and will be held at Richmond Ham tomorrow, Friday May 7, between 3pm and 6pm.

Spectra said: "Knowing your HIV status is key to taking control of your health.

"Highly effective treatment for HIV means that people with HIV who are on treatment who have undetectable levels of HIV in their blood do not transmit HIV.

"There are plenty of reasons to test. It's always better to know."

The event will be carried out under stringent risk assessed protocols, and subject to change/cancellation.

Spectra started life in 1996 as the West London Gay Men's Project.

It was set up to prevent HIV transmission in local high-risk populations by delivering services in the community as well as contributing to the evidence based research of the period.

Spectra has since broadened its work and the issues it supports, now working with people of all sexualities, gender identities, cultural influences and ethnicities who want to make positive changes to their lives.

It says: "With a focus on sexual health and emotional wellbeing, we recognise that a person's sense of identity, well-being, culture, knowledge and confidence impacts strongly on the choices they make in life.

"This could be around isolation, attitudes to protecting yourself, relationships, resilience, stigma or substance use."
