Practical Actions to Reduce Your House's Emissions

UNTIL Wednesday 2nd February

Dr Michael de Podesta will be giving a talk to Richmond and Twickenham Friends of the Earth's monthly meeting about his work to improve the energy efficiency of his house.

He says:

"Back in 2018, just living in my home in Teddington gave rise to 3.7 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. Three tonnes (Yes, tonnes!) of those emissions came out the flue of the gas boiler. Until I did the calculation, I had no consciousness of this effluent at all - despite the fact that it weighed more than all the rubbish we sent for recycling or disposal.

In 2022, the house is warmer in winter and cooler in summer; bills are dramatically lower; and the house will give rise to just 0.7 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

In this talk I will relate how I did this by spending my pension 'lump sum' on triple-glazing, external wall insulation. solar panels and a domestic battery, and a heat pump. It will include actual costs of the installations and photographs together with measurements of what each step achieved.

You may not be as financially fortunate as me, but it may be that one or more of these installations is of interest to you. Pease come along with questions!"
  1. 30 on Wednesday 2nd February upstairs at the The Cavalier Room, The Royal Oak, 13 Richmond Rd, Twickenham TW1 3AB. All welcome but please indicate your interest to [email protected] as space is limited.
